A false ceiling is a roof built under the main roof of a room or building. In other words, it is a second layer of roof suspended from the main roof with the help of a metal or wooden frame. It is also known as "dropped roof". False sealing has many advantages. This improves the aesthetics of the room. A false ceiling is provided to keep the room cool during summer and warm in winter. It is also provided to hide ugly traps of electrical wiring, light fixtures, air conditioning ducts and other fixtures.

1. Gypsum Ceiling- It is a hydrated sulfate of calcium. This type of ceiling are lightweight, sound insulated, fire resistance, soft and thermally insulated.

Plaster of Paris Ceiling- Plaster of Paris false ceiling are attractive, almost no maintenance and has a long life span. They are very excellent insulators or heat and cold. This type of false sealing not only disguises the ugly members of the structure, ventilation ducts and drain, but also gives the roof a smooth finish.

1. Fiber Ceiling- These are in high demand for the construction of false ceiling due to low cost and east installation. The material used to this type ceiling panels are man made by synthetic and natural minerals. As these are man-made they come in different shapes and sizes.
2. Wooden Ceiling- Wooden false ceiling is used due to its natural textures and pattern. Nowadays these types of ceiling are used commonly as it gives a pleasant look to the eyes. Wooden false ceilings, being expensive, are not used in malls and hospitals, but can be installed in residential buildings. They can be given a variety of finishes, or can be painted to get the perfect look.
3. Glass Ceiling- In this type of ceiling non-crystalline material is used with the property of brittle and transparent. But it can be changed using some blends to make it non-brittle and non-transparent. As glass is a good insulator of heat and type of ceiling improves aesthetical appearance of the building.
4. Metal Ceiling- As metal is a rigid and durable material, it is used extensively in false roofing. When the metal surface is polished it gives a shiny surface which is a treat for the eyes. The metals used in this are galvanized iron and aluminium. The cost of this roof is low because they are easy to install and use. The hidden members of the structure are easily accessed because the panels are easily removable and retted. Construction costs are reduced because installation, fixation, and maintenance are low. 
5. Synthetic leather or cloth sealing - The material used in such roof is either leather or cloth. As both the used materials are man-made they can be given any form, shape and design which improve the aesthetic view of interior of the building. As these collect dust and have low light transfer property which is used only in temporary tents or other temporary buildings.
