Festive season tips for cleaning home on Diwali 2019

Diwali, the festival of lights is coming and everyone is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the festival. This year it will be celebrated on 27 October 2019. The Diwali celebration is the victory of good over evil and chases darkness.

House cleaning is not something all of us can be passionate about. In fact, cleaning a house before Diwali is a tradition and whether you like it or not, you should do it. It is a festival of lights, lamps and crackers. But lights and lamps will shine only when we keep our house and surroundings clean.

According to Indian rituals, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshiped during Diwali. As these two gods have a close relationship with wealth and happiness, people pray for happiness and prosperity in their homes. However, the gods are believed to visit only clean and well-decorated homes, making Diwali undeniably clean.

Preparation for Diwali starts at least 2 weeks before the auspicious event. Diwali is less than a month away and most of us have started cleaning for the festival.

I hope all of you have started cleaning your house. But if not yet, this write-up is for all of you. Here are some quick tips on Diwali cleaning so that you have a great house before Diwali.

  1. Dress your house: One should start cleaning with least favorite areas and things that stay clean for at least a few weeks. Organizing a wardrobe and bed box only takes a few hours and can be done easily. Replace all the sheets, curtains and carpets in the house. For the kitchen, you need to plan ahead. Kitchen tiles, chimneys, cabinets, crockery, all of which cannot be done in a day. So share the tasks in 2-3 days so that you can clean them easily.
  2. Categorize Items: This is the best time of year to get rid of unwanted items. Whatever you have not used in the past year and there is no use of such items in the future, resell those items or gift it. You can buy some joy and happiness on the face by donating unwanted items to orphanages and the poor.
  3. Kitchen Cleaning: It is very easy to clean the kitchen because most of the things in the kitchen can be cleaned using dishwashing soap, vinegar, hot water and baking soda. Start cleaning your kitchen with utensils and dishes, bowls and racks and boxes after all. To clean the kitchen walls, you can use detergent to clean the tiles. In the same way, you can clean cabinets, chimneys, exhaust fans, floors etc. with just hot water and detergent.
  4. Cleaning the floor: Clean the floor efficiently with floor cleaner. You can use vacuum cleaner, sweeper, broom and old cloth to clean the floor. For cleaning the bathroom floor, use bathroom cleaners which are easily available in the market. Use hand gloves before starting cleaning. Use daily papers to clean glass surfaces and mirrors.
  5. Clean the cupboard: Empty your cupboard and then start cleaning it. Replace paper or cloth when it is on the rack. Fold all the clothes properly and arrange them in good order. You can simply donate unwanted clothes that you feel you cannot use in the future for someone who needs them. Make separate compartments in the cupboard, you can also install drawers in it. Separate unclothed clothes and keep them in the laundry instead of keeping them in the cupboard.
  6. Bed Cleaning: You can clean the boxes from the bed the way you have cleaned your cupboard. Do not use detergent, use a dry cloth to clean it. We usually keep bedroom items such as pillows, bed sheets, blankets, cushions etc. in a bed box. This is a good time to let these bedroom items dry in sunlight to kill germs.
  7. Cleaning Household Appliances: Using home appliances such as televisions, music players, fridges, washing machines, air conditioners, set-top boxes, glass cleaners. First, you must remove the dust using a duster cloth. Then clean these instruments using a cleanser and dry cloth.
  8. Cleaning curtains and covers: Curtains and covers are very important to realize a clean Diwali. Wash all curtains, sofa covers, pillow covers and bedsheets individually and not on a single occasion because your washing machine may not have the ability to wash loads of clothes at a time.
