What should be the size of a parking?

As it is mandatory to offer parking space under the law, State authorities generally approve the number of apartments in a project on the basis of the number of parking spaces offered by the developer. The laws determine the proportion of parking according to the size of the apartment. Generally, one parking is compulsory for a 3BHK apartment and two parking for a 4BHK apartment. A parking space under bylaws is defined as equivalent car space (ECS).

There are 3 types of parking:-

  1. Angle Parking- It is a form of roadside car parking where the parking spaces are arranged at an acute angle (less than 90 degrees) to the direction of approach, allowing the driver to enter a space easily and later reverse back out easily.
  2. Parallel Parking- It is a method of parking in which a vehicle parallel to the road, in line with other parked vehicles. Parallel parking usually requires moving the parking space slightly backward, parallel to the car parked in front of that space, keeping a safe distance, and then reversing to that location.
  3. Perpendicular Parking- It is a type of parking that requires cars to be parked side to side. This type of parking takes up less space than parallel parking and is commonly used in parking lots and car garages.
