(SEM VIII) THEORY EXAMINATION 2023-24 HUMAN VALUES IN MADHYASTH DARSHAN
SECTION A
(Attempt all | 2 × 10 = 20 marks)
a. Inter-relation of values and darshan
Darshan provides the correct understanding of reality, while values guide human conduct. Values emerge naturally from right darshan, and darshan is meaningful only when expressed through values in life.
b. Being humane is about being human
Being humane means living with right understanding, compassion, responsibility, and harmony. When a person understands oneself and others correctly, humane behavior naturally follows.
c. Difference between understanding and thought
Understanding is permanent and based on reality, while thought is temporary and imagination-based. Understanding brings clarity, whereas thoughts keep changing.
d. Features of nature
Nature is orderly, continuous, interconnected, self-regulated, and purposeful. It follows definite laws and supports coexistence among all entities.
e. Mental impressions
Mental impressions are stored experiences, beliefs, and conditioning that influence thoughts and behavior. They affect perception unless corrected by right understanding.
f. Swa-naari / Swa-purusha
It means seeing every woman as mother/sister/daughter and every man as brother/son/father, based on respect and right understanding, not attraction or exploitation.
g. Natural principle to achieve human goal
Living in harmony with self, society, and nature through right understanding, right feeling, and right behavior is the natural principle to achieve human goals.
h. Advantages of self-realization through self-study
Self-study leads to clarity, confidence, ethical living, lasting happiness, freedom from confusion, and harmonious relationships.
i. Continuity of happiness
Continuity of happiness comes from permanent understanding and harmony, not from temporary pleasure or external achievements.
j. Modern day problems
Modern problems include stress, violence, inequality, environmental degradation, corruption, loneliness, and lack of meaning in life.
SECTION B
(Attempt any THREE | 3 × 10 = 30 marks)
2(a) Core tenets and foundational concepts of Madhyasth Darshan
Madhyasth Darshan presents reality as coexistence of consciousness and matter. Its core tenets include holistic understanding, harmony at all levels, self-exploration, and resolution of contradictions. It emphasizes human purpose as continuous happiness and prosperity through right understanding rather than accumulation or domination.
2(b) Four natural orders: structure, attributes & qualities
Nature is organized into four orders:
Material Order – Physical entities governed by physical laws
Plant Order – Growth, nourishment, reproduction
Animal Order – Sensation, instinct, limited choice
Human Order – Self-awareness, understanding, value-based living
Each higher order includes the qualities of the lower order plus new capabilities.
2(c) Human identity as union of self and body
Human identity is the coexistence of the conscious self (I) and the physical body. The self is the knower and decision-maker, while the body is an instrument. Misidentifying the body as the self leads to confusion and suffering.
2(d) Role of social order in individual growth
A just social order provides education, justice, security, and participation. It enables individuals to develop values, relationships, skills, and prosperity, ensuring mutual trust and harmony.
2(e) Self-realization in addressing inequality and injustice
Self-realization removes comparison, greed, and fear. When individuals understand equality at the level of self, discrimination, exploitation, and injustice naturally reduce, leading to an inclusive society.
SECTION C
3(a) Fundamental principles of Madhyasth Darshan
Madhyasth Darshan is based on coexistence, harmony, natural acceptance, and holistic understanding. It provides a unified vision of existence, human purpose, and ethical living, resolving conflicts between science, philosophy, and spirituality.
3(b) Vision of a just, equitable & sustainable society
Such a society ensures right education, ethical governance, sustainable use of resources, mutual trust, and prosperity for all. Individuals contribute by living responsibly, understanding their role, and participating consciously.
4(a) Evolutionary processes in nature
Natural evolution occurs through orderly progression governed by natural laws. It is not random but purposeful, leading from material to conscious beings with increasing complexity and awareness.
4(b) Categorization of nature into material and consciousness
Nature consists of material entities (physical, energy-based) and consciousness (the self). Material follows physical laws, while consciousness experiences, understands, and decides.
5(a) Self-realization, prosperity & well-being
Self-realization brings inner clarity and happiness, while prosperity ensures physical needs are met. Together, they ensure holistic well-being and quality of life.
5(b) Diversity in humans & connection with nature
Human diversity exists in physical and cultural forms, but at the level of self, all humans are the same. Recognizing this unity promotes respect, coexistence, and ecological harmony.
6(a) Application of natural, social & psychological principles
Natural principles ensure sustainability, social principles ensure justice, and psychological principles ensure mental harmony. Together, they help achieve human goals of happiness and prosperity.
6(b) Personal development & nurturing community
Individuals grow by understanding themselves while contributing to family, society, and nature. Balanced
participation creates supportive, value-based communities.
7(a) Impact of self-realization on identity and interconnectedness
Self-realization clarifies identity beyond body and possessions. It reveals interconnectedness with nature and society, leading to responsible and harmonious living.
7(b) Influence of self-realization on relationships
Self-realization brings trust, respect, empathy, and responsibility in relationships. Conflicts reduce as expectations are replaced by understanding.
