SECTION A – Objective Type / Multiple Choice Questions (1 Mark Each)
Section A mainly checks your basic understanding of key concepts related to sports event management. These questions focus on definitions, formulas, and factual knowledge.
In this section, students are expected to understand:
1️⃣ Functions of Sports Event Management
You should clearly know the five major functions:
Planning – Deciding in advance what needs to be done.
Organising – Arranging resources and implementing the plan.
Staffing – Selecting suitable people for different responsibilities.
Directing – Guiding and motivating people.
Controlling – Monitoring activities and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
Questions may ask which of these are parts of sports management or what planning means.
2️⃣ Committees and Their Responsibilities
You must know the different committees formed before, during, and after a sports event such as:
Organising Committee
Registration Committee
Technical Committee
Finance Committee
Boarding & Lodging Committee
Prize Distribution Committee

SECTION B – Very Short and Short Answer Questions (2–3 Marks)
Section B checks your conceptual understanding and ability to explain briefly but clearly.

1️⃣ Meaning of Planning in Sports
Planning is the development of a strategy to achieve objectives effectively. It ensures smooth functioning and proper coordination of the event.
2️⃣ Knock-out Tournament
Also called elimination tournament.
Once a team loses, it is eliminated.
It requires fewer matches and less time.
Advantages include:
Less expenditure
Fewer officials required
Quick completion
3️⃣ League Tournament
In a league tournament, every team plays against every other team.
There are two types:
Single League – Each team plays once.
Double League – Each team plays twice.
Students may be asked to calculate number of matches or rounds.
4️⃣ Seeding and Bye
Seeding means placing strong teams in such a way that they do not meet in early rounds.
Bye allows a team to move to the next round without playing.
These concepts are frequently asked in short answer questions.
5️⃣ Committees and Their Roles
Students must explain roles like:
Technical Committee supervises officials and prepares fixtures.
Finance Committee manages budget.
Registration Committee collects entries.
6️⃣ Intramural Objectives
Objectives include:

Section B focuses on explanation in simple and clear language.
SECTION C – Long Answer / Case Study Questions (4 Marks)
Section C requires deeper understanding and application-based answers.
1. Detailed Explanation of Committees
Students must explain:
Pre-Tournament duties
During Tournament responsibilities
Post-Tournament tasks
For example:
Organising Committee
Handles complete event planning from start to finish.
Technical Committee
Manages fixtures, rules, referees, results, and equipment.
Finance Committee
Prepares budget, tracks expenses, and prepares final financial report.
These explanations must be structured and detailed.
2. Drawing Fixtures
Students may be asked to:
Draw knock-out fixtures
Draw league fixtures (Cyclic or Staircase method)
For example:
If there are 6 teams in a league:
Number of matches = 6(6–1)/2 = 15 matches
Number of rounds = 5
You must show proper calculation steps.
3. Types of Combination Tournaments
There are four types:
Knockout cum League
League cum Knockout
Knockout cum Knockout
League cum League
Students must explain structure and give examples.
4. Intramural vs Extramural (Comparative Explanation)
Intramural:
Conducted within the institution
Promotes participation
Extramural:
Conducted between institutions
Provides exposure and competition
5. Case Study Questions
You may be given a situation like:
A school organizing Sports Day.
You must identify:
Required committees
Responsibilities
Correct tournament type
This section checks practical understanding.
