Informatics Practices – Class XI Student Support Material (2025–26)
Section A – Very Short Answer Questions (Concept-Based Understanding)
Section A mainly focuses on testing the basic conceptual understanding of students. This section usually contains objective-type questions such as multiple-choice questions, assertion-reason questions, fill in the blanks, and very short answer questions. It checks whether students clearly understand fundamental concepts from all units including Computer System, Python basics, Database concepts, and Emerging Trends.
The purpose of this section is not only to test memory but also to check whether students can identify correct concepts quickly and apply their understanding in simple situations. Questions may include identifying components of a computer, understanding memory types, recognizing types of software, or selecting correct Python syntax.
This section builds the foundation of the subject. If a student understands Section A concepts clearly, it becomes easier to handle longer and application-based questions in later sections.
Two Questions for Section A:
Why is Cache Memory considered faster than RAM, and how does it improve system performance?
Differentiate between Interactive Mode and Script Mode in Python execution.
Section B – Short Answer and Application-Based Questions
Section B generally includes short answer questions that require explanation, differentiation, or application of concepts. These questions are longer than Section A and demand descriptive answers. Students are expected to explain concepts clearly with examples.
In this section, topics may include explanation of RAM and ROM, comparison between compiler and interpreter, explanation of Python operators, control statements, database concepts like primary key and candidate key, and types of SQL commands such as DDL, DML, and DQL.
Students must not only define terms but also justify answers logically. For example, explaining why RAM is volatile or how SQL commands help in data manipulation. Practical understanding is also tested here.
This section helps students develop analytical thinking and writing skills along with technical clarity.
Two Questions for Section B:
Explain the difference between Primary Memory and Secondary Memory with suitable examples.
What is Structured Query Language (SQL)? Explain the role of SELECT and WHERE commands with an example.
Section C – Long Answer and Case-Based Questions
Section C is designed to test in-depth understanding and real-life application of concepts. It includes long answer questions, case-based questions, and sometimes scenario-based problems. Students are required to write detailed explanations and sometimes analyze given situations.
In this section, questions may involve drawing and explaining the block diagram of a computer system, writing Python programs, explaining database creation steps in MySQL, analyzing cybersecurity scenarios, or solving case-based problems related to system performance and memory.
Case-based questions test the student’s ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations. For example, analyzing why a computer runs slowly and suggesting solutions, or identifying the best storage device for long-term data storage.
This section encourages logical reasoning, clarity of thought, structured writing, and practical application of Informatics Practices concepts.
Two Questions for Section C:
Draw and explain the block diagram of a computer system and describe the function of each component.
Explain different types of SQL commands (DDL, DML, and DQL) with suitable examples.
