SECTION A

(a) Define evolutionary theory.
Evolutionary theory explains how living beings gradually change over time through processes such as variation, adaptation, and natural selection. In Indian traditional understanding, evolution is also seen in philosophical terms, where life progresses from simpler forms to higher consciousness.
(b) What is Varnashrama System?
The Varnashrama system is a socio-spiritual framework of ancient India that combines Varna (division of society based on work and qualities) and Ashrama (four stages of life—Brahmacharya, Grihastha, Vanaprastha, and Sannyasa). It aimed to create balance between social duties and spiritual growth.
(c) Give a brief account on Upanishads.
Upanishads are philosophical texts that form the concluding part of the Vedas. They focus on spiritual knowledge, self-realization, and the concept of Brahman (ultimate reality). The Upanishads emphasize meditation, wisdom, and the unity of the soul with the universe.
(d) How is Jain literature classified?
Jain literature is classified mainly into Agamas, which contain teachings of Lord Mahavira, Angas, Upangas, Prakirnas, Chhedasutras, and Kalpasutras. These texts focus on ethics, discipline, and spiritual liberation.
(e) Who is your hero from Ramayana and why?
Lord Rama is my hero from the Ramayana because he represents ideal human values such as truth, duty, compassion, and sacrifice. His life teaches moral conduct, respect for elders, and commitment to
righteousness even in difficult situations.
(f) What do you mean by Purushartha?
Purushartha refers to the four fundamental goals of human life in Indian philosophy: Dharma (righteousness), Artha (wealth), Kama (desire), and Moksha (liberation). These goals guide balanced material and spiritual living.
(g) Who contributes most to mathematics?
Ancient Indian scholars like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, and Bhaskaracharya made significant contributions to mathematics, including the concept of zero, algebra, trigonometry, and decimal system.

(a) Explain Harappan Script in detail.
The Harappan Script belongs to the Indus Valley Civilization and is one of the earliest writing systems. It consists of symbols engraved on seals, pottery, and tablets. The script remains undeciphered, but it reflects advanced administrative, economic, and cultural practices of Harappan society.
(b) Write a short note on different types of dances in India.
Indian dances are broadly classified into classical, folk, and tribal dances. Classical dances like Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Odissi are rooted in ancient texts. Folk dances such as Bhangra and Garba reflect regional culture, while tribal dances express community life and rituals.
(c) What are Bhakti Movement and Sufi Movement? Discuss their importance.
The Bhakti Movement emphasized devotion to God without rituals or caste discrimination. Saints like Kabir and Mirabai promoted equality and love.
The Sufi Movement focused on spiritual closeness to God through love and humanity. Both movements promoted social harmony, unity, and cultural integration.
(d) Discuss the contribution of Physics and Chemistry in India.
Ancient India made remarkable contributions in metallurgy, astronomy, and chemistry. Indians developed techniques for steel production, distillation, dyes, and medicines. Concepts of atomic theory and planetary motion were discussed by scholars like Kanada and Aryabhata.
(e) What are the roles of engineers in nation building?
Engineers contribute to nation building by developing infrastructure, technology, renewable energy, digital systems, and industrial growth. They play a key role in sustainable development, innovation, and improving quality of life.

(a) Describe seven limbs of the state given by Chanakya.
According to Chanakya, the state consists of seven limbs: King, Ministers, Territory, Fort, Treasury, Army, and Allies. These elements together ensure stability, security, and prosperity of a kingdom.
(b) Write a short note on challenges faced by women in India.
Women in India face challenges such as gender inequality, limited education access, health issues, and workplace discrimination. Despite progress, social and cultural barriers still restrict equal opportunities.
