UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN BEING COMPREHENSIVELY –
HUMAN ASPIRATIONS & ITS FULFILLMENT (KOE-069)
B.Tech Semester VI – Theory Examination (2022–23)
UNDERSTANDING-THE-HUMAN-BEING-C…
Understanding the Human Being Comprehensively is a value-based and philosophical subject that focuses on self-exploration, human aspirations, ethical conduct, harmony in individual life, society, and nature, and the role of education and technology in achieving sustainable happiness and prosperity. Unlike technical subjects, this course emphasizes right understanding rather than information, and encourages students to examine their own assumptions, beliefs, and behavior. The question paper is structured to test clarity of concepts such as happiness, prosperity, coexistence, ethical conduct, natural acceptance, and harmony at multiple levels. To score well, answers must be written in clear, reflective, logically connected paragraphs, showing depth of understanding rather than memorization.
SECTION A – BASIC CONCEPTS OF HUMAN ASPIRATIONS AND VALUES
Section A tests the student’s understanding of fundamental ideas related to human needs, values, behavior, and nature. Although the questions are short in marks, they require conceptual clarity and precise language.
When explaining the basic requirements of human beings and their priorities, students should explain that human beings have two kinds of needs: physical needs related to the body, such as food, clothing, and shelter, and needs related to the self (I), such as happiness, respect, trust, and harmony. Priority should always be given to right understanding in the self, because without it, physical facilities cannot ensure lasting happiness.
The difference between belief and understanding should be explained by stating that belief is an assumption accepted without verification, often influenced by tradition or society, whereas understanding is based on self-exploration and rational evaluation. Sustainable human living requires understanding rather than blind belief.
Value education guidelines should be explained as principles that help individuals recognize what is truly valuable in life, leading to harmony within oneself and with others. The statement that values and skills are complementary must be explained by highlighting that skills help in production and efficiency, while values guide the right use of skills for human welfare.
Prevailing notions of happiness and prosperity often equate happiness with sensory pleasure and prosperity with accumulation of wealth. These notions lead to competition, stress, environmental degradation, and social conflict. This contrast must be clearly explained.
The difference between reaction and response should be explained in terms of awareness and understanding. Reaction is impulsive and driven by emotions, while response is thoughtful and guided by right understanding.
The four orders of nature must be explained as material order, plant or bio order, animal order, and human order, forming a mutually dependent system.
The difference between innateness of human order and animals should be explained by stating that humans have the capacity for self-reflection and value-based living, whereas animals live primarily by instinct.
Finally, the need for definite ethical human conduct and the outcome of harmony with nature and existence should be explained by linking them to sustainable development, mutual happiness, and ecological balance.
SECTION B – ETHICAL CONDUCT, SELF-EXPLORATION & CO-EXISTENCE
Section B requires detailed conceptual explanations related to ethical living and understanding existence.
Ethical human conduct should be explained as behavior that ensures harmony within oneself, in relationships, in society, and with nature. Its characteristics include trust, respect, responsibility, justice, and compassion.
The statement “I am the Seer, Doer, and Enjoyer” must be explained by clarifying that the self is the conscious entity that understands, makes decisions, performs actions through the body, and experiences happiness or unhappiness as a result of those actions.
The process of self-exploration should be explained as an inner journey of questioning one’s assumptions, verifying them through natural acceptance, and aligning thoughts, behavior, and work accordingly.
The concept of co-existence must be explained as the fundamental reality of existence where all units are interconnected and mutually fulfilling. Understanding this leads to harmony at all levels.
The need and process of value education in technical institutions should be explained by emphasizing that technical knowledge without values can lead to misuse of technology, while value education ensures responsible and ethical application of skills.
SECTION C – HUMAN ASPIRATIONS, NATURE & PROSPERITY
Section C focuses on deeper reflection on human nature, aspirations, and fulfillment.
The basic aspirations of human beings should be explained as continuous happiness and prosperity. These aspirations are universal and the same for everyone, although people may try to fulfill them through different means.
The basic nature of the human being should be explained as seeking harmony and happiness, which helps in natural acceptance of right values and ethical conduct.
The coexistence of self and body should be explained by stating that the self is conscious while the body is physical, and both have different needs and functions. Understanding this coexistence helps in proper care of the body and fulfillment of the self.
The concept of prosperity must be differentiated from wealth. Prosperity is the feeling of having more than enough to fulfill physical needs, whereas wealth is mere accumulation, often without satisfaction.
HARMONY IN SELF, BEHAVIOR, NATURE & SOCIETY
Harmony in ‘I’ (self) should be explained as understanding the activities of the self such as desire, thought, and expectation, and ensuring they are guided by right understanding.
The question on intention versus competence should be explained by showing how focusing only on one’s own good intention and blaming others’ incompetence leads to conflict. The alternative is mutual understanding and cooperation, illustrated through practical examples.
The use of technology without understanding coexistence should be explained as a major cause of environmental destruction and social imbalance. Technology must be guided by values to ensure sustainability.
The dependency of human beings on the other three orders of nature should be explained by highlighting how humans depend on material resources, plants, and animals for survival and well-being.
The concept of harmony in nature should be explained as balance and mutual fulfillment among all natural entities. Finally, strategies for transition to universal human order should be explained by focusing on right education, ethical conduct, responsible technology, and social awareness.
HOW TO WRITE UHV ANSWERS IN THE EXAM
In this subject, never write answers in short bullet points. Always write in reflective, connected paragraphs, using simple language but clear concepts. Answers should show understanding, not memorization. Use terms like happiness, prosperity, coexistence, natural acceptance, harmony, and ethical conduct correctly. Examiners give maximum weightage to conceptual clarity, logical flow, and relevance to human life.
