SECTION A – Short Answer Notes (2 Marks Each)
1. Objective of Vehicle Transport Management
The main objective of vehicle transport management is to ensure safe, economical, and efficient movement of passengers and goods. It focuses on optimal use of vehicles, cost control, proper maintenance, compliance with transport laws, and customer satisfaction.
2. Methods Used in Route Planning
Route planning involves selecting the most economical and efficient path for vehicle movement. Common methods include shortest distance routing, minimum time routing, traffic density analysis, and terrain consideration to reduce fuel consumption and delays.
3. Purpose of Vehicle Ledger and MOPS
A vehicle ledger maintains complete records of vehicle operation, maintenance, fuel consumption, and expenses. MOPS (Maintenance and Operation Planning System) helps in planning servicing schedules, monitoring breakdowns, and improving fleet efficiency.
4. Overhauling Process
Overhauling is the process of complete inspection, dismantling, repair, and replacement of worn-out vehicle components to restore performance and extend vehicle life.
5. Function of CIRT
CIRT (Central Institute of Road Transport) provides training, research, consultancy, and development support for road transport organizations in India.
6. Registration Mark
A registration mark is the unique alphanumeric code issued by the RTO to identify a vehicle, indicating state, district, and registration number.
7. Difference Between STA and RTA
The State Transport Authority (STA) regulates transport policies at the state level, while the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) implements these policies at the regional or district level.
8. Vehicle Fitness
Vehicle fitness refers to the mechanical and safety condition of a vehicle ensuring it is roadworthy and complies with Motor Vehicle Act standards.
9. Motor Vehicle Act
The Motor Vehicle Act is the legal framework governing vehicle registration, licensing, traffic rules, penalties, and transport operations in India.
10. Forms Used in MVA
Common MVA forms include registration forms, permit applications, fitness certificates, and license-related forms, each serving regulatory and administrative purposes.
SECTION B – Long Answer Notes (10 Marks)
1. Policies of Transport Organization Towards Passengers
Transport organizations frame passenger-oriented policies focusing on safety, punctuality, comfort, affordability, and grievance redressal. These policies improve public trust, service quality, and operational efficiency.
2. Scheduled and Unscheduled Maintenance
Scheduled maintenance is preventive and performed at regular intervals to avoid breakdowns. Unscheduled maintenance occurs after sudden failures and leads to higher costs and downtime.
3. Operating Cost of a Vehicle
Operating cost includes fixed costs such as depreciation, insurance, and taxes, and running costs like fuel, lubricants, maintenance, and tyres. Efficient cost control ensures profitability.
4. Bell Punch System and Fare Box
The bell punch system mechanically records tickets issued by conductors, while the fare box is an automated system that collects and records fare electronically, reducing leakage.
5. Procedure to Obtain Driving Licence
The process involves learner’s license application, driving test, document verification, and medical fitness certification as per RTO norms.
SECTION C – Descriptive Answer Notes
1. Types of Ownership of Vehicle Transport
Ownership may be individual, partnership, cooperative, or government-owned. In partnership ownership, multiple individuals share investment, profit, and responsibility, reducing financial burden.
2. Transport Systems and Advantages of Road Transport
Transport systems include road, rail, water, and air transport. Road transport offers door-to-door service, flexibility, lower initial investment, and better connectivity.
3. Preventive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance involves regular inspection, servicing, and replacement of parts to prevent failures. It extends vehicle life, reduces downtime, and ensures safety.
4. Risk Assessment in Transport Maintenance
Risk assessment identifies hazards such as brake failure or tyre burst and suggests preventive measures to ensure operational safety.
