B.Tech Semester VI – Section-wise Description

SECTION A – Very Short Answer Questions (2 Marks Each)

This section checks basic concepts and definitions. Questions are direct and theory-based. Students are expected to answer briefly in 2–3 lines.

Topics covered include:

Design period in water supply projects

Common impurities in water

Pipe appurtenances used in water distribution

BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand)

Solids present in water

Simple numerical on BOD at different temperatures

Effects of filtration on water quality

Purpose of Section A:
To test fundamental understanding and terminology of Environmental Engineering. 

 SECTION B – Short/Medium Answer Questions (7 Marks Each, Any Three)

This section focuses on conceptual clarity, numerical ability, and application of formulas. Answers require explanation with steps and sometimes assumptions.

Key areas include:

Population forecasting methods and their suitability

Design of water supply mains using Darcy–Weisbach and Hazen–Williams equations

Determination and importance of dissolved solids in wastewater

Temperature dependence of BOD and calculation of rate constant

Water supply systems in the Indian context

Purpose of Section B:

To evaluate analytical thinking, numerical skills, and real-world application of water supply and wastewater concepts. 

 SECTION C – Long Answer / Numerical (7 Marks, Any One)

This section demands detailed numerical solving or descriptive explanation. Answers must be step-wise and properly presented.

Includes:

Calculation of total oxygen demand and population equivalent of sewage

Shapes of sewer sections and their significance

Purpose of Section C:
To test problem-solving ability and understanding of sewage characteristics.
