a) What do you mean by industries?
Industries are economic activities concerned with the production of goods or services by transforming raw materials into finished or semi-finished products using labor, machines, capital, and management. Industries play a vital role in economic growth and employment generation.
b) Meaning of work simplification
Work simplification is a systematic method of improving efficiency by eliminating unnecessary motions, reducing work content, and simplifying job procedures. Its objective is to increase productivity with minimum effort and cost.
c) What do you mean by TQM?
Total Quality Management (TQM) is a management approach that focuses on continuous improvement of quality in all organizational processes with the involvement of all employees to achieve customer satisfaction.
d) Define PPC
Production Planning and Control (PPC) is the function of management which plans, schedules, coordinates, and controls production activities to ensure timely production at minimum cost.
e) Meaning of inventory costs
Inventory costs are expenses associated with ordering, storing, handling, and shortage of inventory. These include ordering cost, carrying cost, and stock-out cost.
f) Define EOQ
Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) is the optimum quantity of material that should be ordered at a time so that the total inventory cost is minimum.
g) Define project crashing
Project crashing is a technique used in project management to reduce project completion time by increasing resources at additional cost on critical activities.

1) Management and its functions
Management is the process of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling organizational resources to achieve goals efficiently and effectively.
The main functions of management include planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling, each playing a crucial role in organizational success.
2) Sampling and types of sampling plans
Sampling is the process of selecting a portion of items from a population for inspection.
Sampling plans are mainly classified into single sampling, double sampling, and multiple sampling plans depending on inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.
3) Scientific management and its principles
Scientific management, proposed by F.W. Taylor, emphasizes scientific methods for work efficiency.
Its principles include science instead of rule of thumb, harmony instead of conflict, cooperation, and development of workers for maximum efficiency.
4) ABC-VED analysis in inventory control
ABC analysis classifies inventory based on annual consumption value, while VED analysis classifies items based on criticality (Vital, Essential, Desirable).
The combined ABC-VED matrix helps prioritize inventory control and decision-making.
5) Productivity and factors affecting productivity
Productivity is the ratio of output to input.
It is affected by factors such as technology, labor skill, management efficiency, working conditions, and availability of resources.

Q3 (a) Production system and comparison of Job & Batch production
A production system is a method of organizing resources to convert inputs into outputs.
Job production is suitable for customized products with low volume, while batch production is used for moderate volume with similar products produced in batches.
Q3 (b) Motion study
Motion study is the analysis of movements involved in performing a job to eliminate wasteful motions.
Its objectives include improving efficiency, reducing fatigue, and increasing productivity.
Techniques involve micro-motion study, SIMO charts, and motion economy principles.
Q4 (a) Inventory and motives for holding inventory
Inventory refers to stock of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
Motives include ensuring smooth production, meeting customer demand, taking advantage of bulk purchase, and avoiding shortages.
Q4 (b) Project management and its importance
Project management involves planning, scheduling, executing, and controlling projects.
It ensures timely completion, cost control, proper utilization of resources, and achievement of project objectives.
Q5 (a) Industrial management and its scope
Industrial management deals with the management of industrial enterprises for efficient production.
Its scope includes production management, personnel management, financial management, quality control, and materials management.
Q5 (b) PERT and CPM
PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Technique) is used for uncertain project durations, while CPM (Critical Path Method) is used for deterministic activities.
Both help in project planning, scheduling, and control.
Q6 (a) Industrial ownership and its types
Industrial ownership refers to the legal ownership structure of industries.
Types include sole proprietorship, partnership, joint stock company, cooperative society, and public sector enterprises.
Q6 (b) Principles of management by Henri Fayol
Henri Fayol proposed 14 principles including division of work, authority and responsibility, discipline, unity of command, unity of direction, and scalar chain.
Q7 (a) Human Resource Management (HRM)
HRM is the management of people in organizations.
Its functions include recruitment, training, motivation, performance appraisal, and employee welfare.
Q7 (b) Social responsibilities of management
Management has responsibilities toward employees, customers, society, government, and environment.
It must ensure ethical practices, social welfare, and sustainable development.
