(SEM VII) THEORY EXAMINATION 2022-23 CLOUD COMPUTING
CLOUD COMPUTING (KCS-713)
B.Tech SEM VII – Complete Solved Question Paper (2022–23)
⏱ Time: 3 Hours | 📊 Marks: 100
SECTION A
Attempt all questions in brief (2 × 10 = 20 marks)
(a) Compare parallel computing and distributed computing
Parallel computing uses multiple processors in a single system to perform tasks simultaneously, whereas distributed computing uses multiple independent systems connected through a network to achieve a common goal. Parallel systems share memory, while distributed systems communicate through message passing.
(b) What are the service models available in cloud computing?
The main service models are: IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
PaaS (Platform as a Service) SaaS (Software as a Service)
(c) Express the levels of virtualization Levels of virtualization include:
Hardware-level virtualization Operating system-level virtualization
Application-level virtualization Storage and network virtualization
(d) Illustrate Web services
Web services are software systems designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network. They use standards like HTTP, SOAP, REST, XML, and JSON.
(e) Differentiate Public cloud and Private cloud
| Public Cloud | Private Cloud |
|---|---|
| Owned by third-party provider | Owned by single organization |
| Shared infrastructure | Dedicated infrastructure |
| Lower cost | Higher security |
(f) List the characteristics of SaaS
Characteristics include multi-tenancy, scalability, subscription-based pricing, accessibility via browser, automatic updates, and centralized data management.
(g) List the security issues in cloud
Security issues include data breaches, data loss, insecure APIs, account hijacking, insider threats, and lack of compliance.
(h) Define security governance
Security governance is the framework of policies, controls, and procedures used to manage and protect information systems and data in the cloud environment.
(i) List the functional models of GAE
Functional models of Google App Engine (GAE) include application services, datastore services, runtime environment, and security services.
(j) What is the use of CloudWatch in Amazon EC2?
Amazon CloudWatch is used to monitor EC2 instances by collecting metrics such as CPU utilization, memory usage, network traffic, and generating alarms.
SECTION B
Attempt any THREE (10 × 3 = 30 marks)
(a) Major deployment models and services for cloud computing
Cloud deployment models include public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud, and community cloud.
Services include IaaS for infrastructure provisioning, PaaS for application development platforms, and SaaS for software delivery. Each model offers different levels of control, scalability, and security.
(b) Three major components of a virtualized environment
The three major components are: Host machine – Physical hardware
Hypervisor – Manages virtual machines Virtual machines (VMs) – Guest operating systems
( In exam, draw block diagram)
(c) Cloud Computing Reference Architecture and Conceptual Reference Model
The reference architecture includes front-end, back-end, cloud services, virtualization layer, and management layer.
The conceptual reference model defines service models, deployment models, and operational responsibilities among providers and consumers.
( Draw neat architecture diagram)
(d) Resource provisioning
(i) Demand-driven provisioning: Resources are allocated based on real-time user demand.
(ii) Event-driven provisioning: Resources are allocated in response to specific events like traffic spikes or failures.
(e) HDFS concepts with illustration
HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) stores large datasets across multiple nodes.
Key components include NameNode, DataNode, and Secondary NameNode.
It supports fault tolerance, replication, and high throughput.
( Draw HDFS architecture diagram)
SECTION C
Q3 (Attempt any one)
(a) Cloud computing reference model with diagram
The reference model includes service layers (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), deployment layers, management, and security layers.
It defines interaction between consumers, providers, and brokers.
( Draw reference model diagram)
(b) Innovative characteristics of cloud computing
Innovative characteristics include on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, measured service, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Q4 (Attempt any one)
(a) REST architecture style for distributed systems
REST (Representational State Transfer) is a stateless architecture using HTTP methods like GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE.
It is lightweight, scalable, and widely used in cloud-based distributed systems.
(b) Pros and cons of virtualization
Pros: Resource optimization, scalability, cost reduction, isolation
Cons: Performance overhead, security risks, complexity, single-point failure
Q5 (Attempt any one)
(a) Principles for designing public, private, and hybrid cloud
Design principles include scalability, security, fault tolerance, interoperability, compliance, and cost optimization. Hybrid cloud combines benefits of both public and private clouds.
(b) Cloud deployment models with diagrams
Deployment models include public, private, hybrid, and community cloud.
( Draw separate diagrams for each model)
Q6 (Attempt any one)
(a) Secure Software Development Life Cycle (SSDLC)
SSDLC integrates security into all phases of development: requirement analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
( Draw SSDLC diagram)
(b) Security monitoring and incident response
Security monitoring involves continuous tracking of system activity. Incident response includes detection, containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident analysis.
Q7 (Attempt any one)
(a) Google Cloud Infrastructure and GAE Architecture
Google Cloud Infrastructure provides compute, storage, and networking services.
GAE architecture includes application runtime, services, datastore, and security.
( Draw GAE architecture diagram)
(b) Five web services of Amazon Amazon EC2 – Virtual servers
Amazon S3 – Storage Amazon RDS – Database service
Amazon CloudWatch – Monitoring AWS Lambda – Serverless computing
