SECTION A – Explanation

Section A of the Cloud Computing (RCS-075) paper is intended to examine the student’s basic understanding of cloud computing fundamentals. This section focuses on testing whether the student is familiar with core concepts, definitions, and foundational ideas that are essential to understand cloud technology. Since all questions are compulsory and carry equal marks, clarity and correctness are extremely important.

The questions in this section are mostly conceptual and definition-based. Topics include the need for cloud computing, characteristics of cloud computing, differences between parallel computing and grid computing, the role of service-oriented architecture, layered cloud architecture, virtual machine security, inter-cloud resource management, and distributed computing. These questions test whether the student understands why cloud computing exists, how it evolved from earlier computing paradigms, and how its architecture is structured.

Answers in Section A should be brief but technically accurate. For example, when explaining why cloud computing is required, students should clearly relate it to scalability, cost efficiency, and on-demand resource availability. When asked about service-oriented architecture, the answer should highlight how SOA enables modular, reusable, and loosely coupled services in cloud systems. This section does not require diagrams or long explanations, but vague or incorrect answers can easily reduce marks. Precision and use of correct terminology are essential to score well.

SECTION B – Explanation

Section B is designed to test the student’s conceptual clarity and explanatory ability in cloud computing. Unlike Section A, this section requires descriptive answers where students must explain concepts in moderate detail and demonstrate understanding of cloud systems, services, and security mechanisms. Students are required to attempt any three questions, which allows them to choose topics based on their strengths.

The questions in Section B cover important cloud concepts such as the definition and evolution of cloud computing, cloud federation and its levels, cloud storage and its types, Identity and Access Management (IAM), cloud security risks, and web services. These topics are central to understanding how cloud platforms operate and how services are delivered securely over the internet.

When explaining the evolution of cloud computing, students are expected to describe the transition from traditional computing to distributed computing, virtualization, and finally cloud computing, supported by a neat diagram. In questions related to cloud federation, students should explain how multiple cloud providers collaborate and how federation improves scalability and resource sharing. Questions on IAM and cloud security require students to explain both advantages and risks, showing an understanding of security challenges in cloud environments.

Answers in Section B should be written in a continuous, well-structured manner, starting with a clear introduction followed by detailed explanation. Diagrams should be drawn neatly wherever asked. The expected length of each answer is about one and a half to two pages in an exam. Logical flow, clarity of explanation, and relevance to the question are key factors for scoring high marks in this section.

SECTION C – Explanation

Section C is the most important and highest-weight section of the Cloud Computing paper. This section tests the student’s in-depth understanding, analytical ability, and architectural knowledge of cloud computing systems. Each question provides internal choices, and students must attempt only one part from each question.

The questions in Section C focus on advanced and application-oriented topics such as cloud delivery models, architectural challenges of cloud computing, virtualization and its implementation levels, virtualization of CPU, memory, and I/O devices, NIST cloud computing reference architecture, cloud service providers, cloud security architecture, cloud security governance, Hadoop and its architecture, and platforms like Google App Engine and OpenStack.

For example, when explaining cloud delivery models, students are expected to describe Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a Service, along with their advantages and disadvantages. Questions on virtualization require a detailed explanation of how virtualization works at different levels and how it enables resource sharing in cloud environments. The question on NIST reference architecture expects students to clearly explain roles such as cloud consumer, provider, broker, auditor, and carrier, along with their interactions.

Answers in Section C should be well-organized and written in depth. Each answer should begin with a proper introduction, followed by detailed explanation, supported by neat schematic diagrams wherever applicable. The expected length is about two to three pages per answer. This section plays a decisive role in the final score, so students must focus on depth, accuracy, and presentation.

Overall Understanding of the Cloud Computing Paper Pattern

The Cloud Computing (RCS-075) question paper is structured to gradually evaluate students from basic understanding to advanced architectural knowledge. Section A checks foundational concepts and terminology, Section B evaluates conceptual clarity and explanation skills, and Section C tests detailed knowledge, analytical thinking, and system-level understanding. Students who understand this pattern can prepare effectively by revising definitions for Section A, strengthening conceptual explanations for Section B, and mastering long-answer topics with diagrams for Section C.

A strong preparation strategy for this subject includes understanding cloud architectures, practicing diagrams such as NIST architecture and Hadoop architecture, learning virtualization concepts thoroughly, and being comfortable with security-related topics. Mastery of Section C topics is especially important for scoring high marks in this subject.
