SECTION A – Short Answers (2 Marks Each) – Paragraph Style
a) Name the sixteen padārthas described in Nyāya Darśana.
Nyāya Darśana describes sixteen padārthas, which form the foundation of logical inquiry and philosophical analysis. These are pramāṇa, prameya, saṁśaya, prayojana, dṛṣṭānta, siddhānta, avayava, tarka, nirṇaya, vāda, jalpa, vitaṇḍā, hetvābhāsa, chala, jāti, and nigrahasthāna. Together, these categories explain the means of knowledge, objects of knowledge, and methods of reasoning.
b) What are the four Upavedas? Mention their names.
The four Upavedas are auxiliary texts associated with the Vedas and deal with applied knowledge. They are Āyurveda, which focuses on health and medicine; Dhanurveda, which deals with warfare and defense; Gāndharvaveda, which is related to music and arts; and Sthāpatyaveda, which concerns architecture and construction.
c) How is niḥśreyasa defined in the context of Vaiśeṣika philosophy?

d) List the nine dravyas according to Vaiśeṣika Darśana.

Yoga Darśana explains that the mind is influenced by three guṇas: sattva, rajas, and tamas. Sattva represents clarity and harmony, rajas signifies activity and restlessness, and tamas denotes inertia and ignorance. The dominance of these guṇas determines mental behavior and spiritual progress.
f) Explain the concept of pañca kośa according to Vedānta Darśana.
Vedānta Darśana explains human existence through the concept of pañca kośa, or five layers of being. These include the physical body, vital energy, mind, intellect, and blissful self. Spiritual growth involves transcending these layers to realize the true Self.
g) Summarize the main principle of Karma Yoga as presented in the Īśopaniṣad.
The Īśopaniṣad presents Karma Yoga as performing one’s duties selflessly without attachment to results. It teaches that action performed with detachment purifies the mind and leads to liberation rather than bondage.

Yoga Darśana outlines five states of mind: kṣipta (restless), mūḍha (dull), vikṣipta (occasionally steady), ekāgra (focused), and niruddha (fully controlled). Spiritual discipline aims to move the mind toward the niruddha state.
