The questions usually focus on topics such as types of memories used in embedded systems, the difference between tasks, processes, and threads in RTOS, characteristics of embedded computation systems, flow control mechanisms, and operating system services. These questions require structured answers where you explain the concept, describe its importance, and sometimes include diagrams for better clarity.
In this section, the examiner expects depth of knowledge. Instead of writing short definitions, you must explain the concept step-by-step. For example, if asked about memory types, you should discuss RAM, ROM, Flash, EEPROM, their functions, advantages, and why they are used in embedded systems. Similarly, when explaining RTOS concepts, you should describe how scheduling works and why it is important in real-time applications.

Section C – Application and Advanced Concepts (50 Marks)
Section C carries the highest weightage in the paper and requires you to attempt one part from each question. This section mainly focuses on practical applications, advanced theories, and system-level understanding.
You may be asked to explain how a washing machine works using an embedded system, describe communication strategies like SPI, I2C, or UART, explain embedded control systems, discuss RTOS scheduling models, explain timer functions, DAC techniques, frequency spectrum and sampling, recent trends in embedded processors, or justify the best programming language for embedded systems.
The answers in this section should be written in a descriptive and explanatory manner. When explaining applications like a washing machine, you should describe sensors, controllers, actuators, and control logic in detail. If explaining communication protocols, you should discuss how data transfer occurs, synchronization, advantages, and practical usage. Where required, neat block diagrams should be drawn to enhance clarity.
This section checks whether you can connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications and whether you understand embedded systems as a complete integrated system.
