(SEM II) THEORY EXAMINATION 2023-24 ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY
This document contains the complete B.Tech (Semester II) Engineering Chemistry Question Paper for the academic session 2023–24, Subject Code BAS202, as officially conducted in the university examination. The paper evaluates a student’s understanding of fundamental chemical principles, industrial chemistry concepts, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, polymers, corrosion, water treatment, and other core areas of applied chemistry.

The examination is divided into three well-structured sections—Section A, Section B, and Section C—designed to test conceptual clarity, reasoning ability, numerical skills, and theoretical depth.
Section A contains seven short-answer questions (2 marks each). These cover basic chemical concepts such as molecular stability, nanomaterials, NMR selection rules, UV-visible absorption shifts, electrochemical cell EMF calculation, scale prevention through Calgon conditioning, and polymer classification based on tacticity.
Section B includes numerical and conceptual questions (7 marks each). This section contains application-based problems on anisotropic crystals, UV absorption/intensity shifts, corrosion mechanisms, zeolite softening calculations, and the preparation/reactivity of Grignard reagents.
Section C features long-answer, derivation-based, and structural explanation questions covering molecular orbital theory, green chemistry, spectroscopy (NMR), batteries, cement manufacturing, water softening (lime-soda), and bomb calorimeter calculations. Polymer preparation, properties, applications, and conducting polymer classification are also included.
