(SEM-II) THEORY EXAMINATION 2022-23 ENVIRONMENT AND ECOLOGY
The Environment & Ecology (BAS-204) Question Paper for the B.Tech Semester II (2022–23) examination is designed to test students’ understanding of environmental science, ecological systems, pollution control, natural resource management, and sustainable development. Carrying 70 marks, the paper is divided into structured sections that evaluate both conceptual knowledge and analytical ability.
The exam opens with Section A, which contains short-answer questions assessing essential environmental concepts such as the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, industrial impacts on the environment, individual roles in conserving natural resources, hydrogen as a future energy source, water pollution sources, population explosion, and the government’s role in environmental protection. These questions measure clarity of basic understanding.
Section B shifts to descriptive questions that require deeper explanation. Students write about ecology and ecosystem components, causes and consequences of deforestation, the effects and control measures of air pollution, contributions of greenhouse gases to global warming, and the significance of environmental education in protection efforts. This section evaluates analytical skills and the ability to connect theory with real-world environmental challenges.
In Section C, the paper tests higher-order understanding through long-answer questions. Students may be asked to explain the major layers of the atmosphere with altitude-temperature ranges, critically examine the role of fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture, describe biogeochemical cycles such as the Nitrogen cycle, analyze over-utilization of water resources, define and classify solid waste, explain eutrophication, describe automobile emission control technologies, differentiate between clean rain and acid rain, and discuss key features of major environmental laws like the Water Act (1984) and Air Act (1981).
Overall, the BAS-204 question paper presents a balanced mix of factual, conceptual, and application-based questions that enhance students’ awareness of environmental issues, ecological balance, pollution management, and sustainability. Through this exam, engineering students build a strong foundation for understanding global environmental challenges and the importance of environmentally responsible practices.
