(SEM II) THEORY EXAMINATION 2022-23 FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
The Fundamentals of Electronics Engineering (BEC201) Question Paper for the B.Tech Semester II (2022–23) examination evaluates a student’s foundational understanding of electronics, covering electronic devices, transistor operation, logic simplification, OP-AMP applications, rectifier circuits, modulation, and MOSFET characteristics. With a total weightage of 70 marks, the paper is divided into well-structured sections that measure conceptual clarity, analytical skills, circuit interpretation, and mathematical reasoning.
The exam opens with Section A, featuring short questions designed to test essential electronics knowledge. Students must answer questions about the varactor diode, why FET is a voltage-controlled device, characteristics of an ideal OP-AMP, calculation of slew rate, current gain relationships in CB and CE transistor configurations, binary complements, and modulation index in AM. These quick but concept-rich questions determine a student’s grasp of the basics.
Section B contains descriptive questions requiring detailed explanations and circuit diagrams. Students may be asked to define elements of a communication system with a block diagram, explain the working of an NPN transistor in CE configuration, simplify Boolean functions using K-maps, draw and analyze a center-tapped full-wave rectifier including its efficiency and ripple factor, and describe the unity-gain amplifier with numerical output calculation. This section tests the ability to deeply analyze and explain electronic circuits.
In Section C, students answer long, high-level questions that require technical depth. They may explain the construction, working, and characteristics of n-channel depletion MOSFETs or enhancement MOSFETs, determine output voltages of given networks, calculate allowable input voltage range for a Zener diode stabilizer, simplify larger Boolean expressions using K-maps and realize them using NAND/NOR gates, analyze OP-AMP applications like non-inverting summer or integrator, and solve amplitude modulation numericals involving modulation index, sideband amplitudes, total transmitted power, and bandwidth.
Overall, the BEC201 paper presents a balanced mix of theory and application-based questions, ensuring that students demonstrate understanding of semiconductor devices, digital logic circuits, communication basics, analog electronics, and OP-AMP operations. It strengthens circuit-analysis skills and prepares students for advanced electronics engineering subjects.
Sample Questions from the Question Paper
1. What do you mean by Varactor diode? Write one application.
2. Draw and explain the working of NPN transistor in Common Emitter configuration.
3. Simplify the Boolean function using K-map: F = Σm(0,1,2,5,7,8,9,10,13,15) + d(12,14)
