(SEM II) THEORY EXAMINATION 2022-23 SOFT SKILLS
The Communication Skills / Professional Communication Question Paper (2022–23) is designed to evaluate a student’s ability to use English effectively in academic, professional, and social environments. With a total of 70 marks, the paper focuses on essential communication components such as vocabulary building, grammar, writing skills, listening, speaking, leadership traits, and stress management. It encourages students to not only learn language structures but also apply them in real-life communication situations.
The exam begins with Section A, a set of short-answer questions aimed at testing quick recall and understanding of basic communication concepts. Students answer questions involving prefix formation, antonyms and synonyms, the role of word stress in pronunciation, the significance of fluency in communication, the importance of Notices in business communication, the role of confidence in public speaking, and strategies to overcome work-related stress. These questions assess foundational language skills and interpersonal communication awareness.
Section B contains descriptive questions requiring detailed explanations. Students may write about Subject–Verb Agreement rules, various content sequencing patterns, essential components of a meaningful paragraph, and differences between verbal and non-verbal communication with examples. This section also includes questions on leadership qualities, helping students connect communication with personality development and workplace effectiveness. It tests clarity of thought, organized writing, and analytical ability.
Section C includes long-answer, application-based questions. Topics include word formation processes, constructing words using specific root forms, enhancing listening skills, and distinguishing hearing vs. listening. Additional questions focus on methods of writing paragraphs, characteristics of effective writing, importance of vocabulary in impactful speaking, and the significance of audience analysis in presentations. The section also explores the role of leaders in organizational growth and analyzes physical, psychological, and behavioural symptoms of stress. This section evaluates deep understanding, application of concepts, and the ability to write structured, coherent answers.
Overall, this question paper ensures that students gain confidence in English communication, understand essential grammar and vocabulary skills, develop effective writing techniques, and learn interpersonal qualities such as leadership, listening, and stress management. It helps build strong foundations for professional communication required in academic and workplace settings.
