(SEM II) THEORY EXAMINATION 2021-22 EMERGING TECHNOLOGY FOR ENGINEERING
This document contains the complete and original B.Tech (Semester II) Theory Examination Question Paper for Emerging Technologies / Emerging Domains, designed for the 100-mark, 3-hour university examination format. The paper assesses a student’s understanding of rapidly developing technological fields such as IoT, IIoT, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Additive Manufacturing, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, 5G Technology, Smart Cities, Smart Hospitals, Drones, Cryptocurrency, and Brain–Computer Interfaces (BCI).
The question paper is divided into three structured sections, testing conceptual clarity, analytical understanding, real-world applications, and detailed technical explanations across multiple emerging technological domains.
SECTION A – Short Conceptual Questions (2 marks × 10 = 20 marks)
Section A contains ten brief questions, each targeting fundamental definitions and introductory concepts. Key topics include:
Meaning of sustainable living
Concept of a smart hospital
Securing data during cloud transportation
Definition of interface
Elements of a blockchain block
Understanding blockchain decentralization
Definition of additive manufacturing (3D printing)
Materials most suitable for 3D printing and reasons
Meaning of Augmented Reality (AR)
The three spectrums of 5G technology (low-band, mid-band, high-band)
These questions test the student’s foundational knowledge of new-age technologies and their basic real-world relevance.
SECTION B – Analytical, Descriptive, and Application-Based Questions (10 marks × 3 = 30 marks)
Students are required to attempt any three of the five questions. This section includes detailed explanations and real-life applications of emerging domains:
Short note on IoT and IIoT
Layers of Cloud Computing and their working
Five major use cases of Blockchain Technology, including explanation of Google Pay
Evolution of 3D printing and tools used in additive manufacturing
Generations of technology (1G to 5G) in terms of data speed
This section evaluates a student’s ability to explain modern technologies with clarity, depth, and practical examples.
SECTION C – Long Descriptive & Technology-Driven Questions (10 marks × 4 = 40 marks)
Each subsection requires the student to attempt one question, covering deep technical understanding and real-world applications:
Key topics covered:
IoT & Sensors (Q3)
Meaning of sensors
Types and classifications
How sensors operate within an IoT ecosystem
Smart Cities (Q3b)
Definition of smart cities
Features such as smart infrastructure, smart mobility, digital governance, etc.
Cloud Computing (Q4)
Cloud concepts
Cloud service models: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS
Vendor offerings of IBM and Microsoft Azure
Blockchain (Q5)
Smart Contracts: working & advantages
Cryptocurrency vs traditional currency
Disadvantages of Bitcoin
Drones (Q6)
Procedure to make a drone (components, assembly, calibration)
Rules to become a drone pilot
Types of drones and their uses
AR, VR & BCI (Q7)
Meaning of Virtual Reality (VR)
Differences between AR and VR
Understanding BCI (Brain-Computer Interface), working mechanism, and advantages
These questions test students’ detailed analytical capabilities, real-world technological awareness, and ability to articulate emerging engineering concepts.
Sample Questions From This Paper (1–2 examples)
“What do you understand by sustainable living?”
— A fundamental short-answer question testing awareness of environmental and lifestyle technologies.
“Explain in detail the vendor offerings provided by IBM and Microsoft in cloud computing.”
— A long descriptive question illustrating real-world cloud services and enterprise-level solutions.
These sample questions represent the mix of conceptual and practical content in the full examination.
