THEORY EXAMINATION (SEM–II) 2016-17 PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION
This question paper assesses the student's understanding of communication skills, business correspondence, oral and written communication, presentation skills, negotiation, report writing, résumé drafting, and interpersonal communication.
It is divided into three sections, testing definitions, theoretical concepts, and practical writing skills.
SECTION – A (10 × 2 = 20 Marks)
This section contains ten short-answer questions, each requiring brief explanations or definitions.
Topics include:
Meaning of a paragraph
Business correspondence
Précis writing
Need for a cover letter
Eye contact in presentations
Mass communication
Functions of philosophy
Business negotiation
Importance of grapevine communication
Examples of oral & written communication
This section checks basic concepts of communication and professional writing.
SECTION – B (5 × 10 = 50 Marks)
Students must attempt any five medium-length descriptive questions.
Topics include:
Types and flows of technical communication
Requirements of an effective oral presentation
Voice dynamics and presentation skills
Essentials of good sentence construction
Technical vs general communication
Negotiation process & qualities of a good negotiator
Aims of science and literature (as per Moody E. Prior)
Nature, purpose, and importance of reports
This section evaluates explanatory skills, understanding of communication processes, and analytical thinking.
SECTION – C (2 × 15 = 30 Marks)
Students must attempt any two long-answer questions.
Topics include:
Speech Delivery
Different modes of speech delivery (manuscript, memorized, extempore, impromptu)
Best mode of speaking with justification
Résumé Writing
Definition of résumé
Drafting a complete professional résumé for a Project Coordinator in a multinational company
Interpersonal Barriers
Causes of interpersonal communication barriers
Impact of personal behavior on communication effectiveness
This section tests practical writing ability, communication analysis, and professional competency.
