THEORY EXAMINATION (SEM–II) 2016-17 PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION

This question paper evaluates students’ understanding of business communication, presentation skills, negotiation, report writing, résumé preparation, interpersonal barriers, and fundamental communication concepts.
It is divided into three sections covering definitions, descriptive answers, and applied writing tasks.

SECTION – A (10 × 2 = 20 Marks)

This section contains ten short questions, requiring brief definitions or explanations.
Topics include:

Meaning of a paragraph

Business correspondence

Précis writing

Need for a cover letter

Importance of eye contact during presentations

Mass communication

Functions of philosophy (from Moody E. Prior's essay)

Business negotiation

Role of grapevine communication

Examples of oral vs written communication

This section tests basic concepts and professional communication fundamentals.

SECTION – B (5 × 10 = 50 Marks)

Students must attempt any five medium-length descriptive questions.
Topics include:

Vertical, horizontal, and diagonal flows of technical communication

Essentials of an effective oral presentation

Role of voice dynamics in presentations

Requirements of good sentence construction

Differences between technical and general communication

Negotiation process and qualities of a good negotiator

Aims of science and literature (as per Moody E. Prior)

Nature, purpose, and importance of report writing

This section assesses explanatory skills and understanding of communication principles.

SECTION – C (2 × 15 = 30 Marks)

Students must attempt any two long-answer questions.

Different modes: manuscript, memorized, extempore, impromptu

Identifying the best mode of speaking with reasoning

Résumé Writing

Meaning of a résumé

Writing a complete professional résumé for the role of Project Coordinator in an MNC

Interpersonal Barriers
