This is a 3-hour Theory Examination for Workshop Technology / Manufacturing Processes (ME-202) with a total of 100 marks. The question paper is divided into three sections – A, B, and C, and students must answer questions from each section as directed. The paper covers core workshop practices such as carpentry, fitting, forging, molding, metal cutting, sheet metal work, welding, and machine tools.
Section – A (20 Marks)
Section A contains 10 short-answer questions, each carrying 2 marks. Students must answer all questions briefly.
These questions test basic definitions and fundamental workshop concepts, such as:
types of carpentry joints and carpentry processes
definition of fitting and fitting operations
forging defects
properties of molding sand
straight polarity vs reverse polarity
meaning of machine tools
cutting speed and feed in metal cutting
metals used in sheet metal work
materials used for patterns in foundry
This section checks quick recall and understanding of basic workshop practices.
Section – B (50 Marks)
Section B contains 8 descriptive questions, out of which any five must be attempted.
These questions require explanations, diagrams, sketches, and detailed descriptions. Topics include:
types of wood, wood properties, and carpentry tools
tools used in fitting
furnaces used in forging
principle of resistance welding, differences between spot and seam welding
sheet metal operations with sketches
working principles of shaper and milling machine
principal parts and operations of a lathe machine
pattern allowances with neat diagrams
This section tests the student's ability to explain processes clearly and draw workshop tools or machine components accurately.
Section – C (30 Marks)
Section C contains three long-answer questions, of which any two must be answered.
These involve deeper explanations, detailed notes, and sketches. Topics include:
metallurgy of weld, types of cutting tools, and molding processes
seasoning of wood and methods of seasoning
definition of forging and various forging operations with sketches
This section checks advanced understanding and the ability to present detailed technical content.
Overall Summary
