Theory Examination (Semester- II) 2015-16 REMEDIAL BIOLOGY-II
This is a 3-hour Theory Examination for NBT-201 / EBT-201 / BT-201, carrying 100 marks. The paper is divided into three sections – A, B, and C, and students must answer questions from all sections as per instructions. The exam covers fundamental topics in microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, metabolism, immunology, respiration, and human health.
Section – A (20 Marks)
Section A contains 10 very short-answer questions, each carrying 2 marks. Students must answer all parts.
These questions focus on basic definitions and short notes related to:
lichens
algae
structure of bacteriophage
aerobic vs anaerobic respiration
meaning of metabolism
ATP and its importance
full forms of MTP & STDs
definition of immunology
labelled diagram of a prokaryotic cell
definition of enzyme
This section tests quick recall and fundamental understanding of biological terms and structures.
Section – B (50 Marks)
Section B contains 8 descriptive questions, out of which any five must be attempted. Each question carries 10 marks.
These questions require explanations, diagrams, and short descriptions. Topics include:
lipid catabolism
size, shape, and arrangement of bacteria
ultra-structure of mitochondria
differences between glycolysis and Krebs cycle
Gram-positive vs Gram-negative bacteria
factors affecting respiration
metabolic diversity
population explosion and its harmful effects
This section checks the student’s ability to explain biological processes clearly with proper scientific understanding.
Section – C (30 Marks)
Section C contains three long-answer questions, of which any two must be attempted. Each question carries 15 marks.
These questions require detailed explanations and diagrams. Topics include:
cancer and its treatment methods
prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
detailed description of glycolysis
oxidative phosphorylation
This section evaluates the student’s deep understanding, analytical skills, and ability to describe complex biological processes.
Overall Summary
This question paper tests knowledge of:
basic microbiology
metabolism and respiration
cell structure and function
immunology and enzymes
metabolic pathways like glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation
human diseases and population issues
Section A checks basic definitions,
Section B checks explanation and process understanding,
Section C checks in-depth knowledge of core biological topics.
