(SEM III) THEORY EXAMINATION 2024-25 TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION
This is a 3-hour Theory Examination for BAS301 – Technical Communication, carrying a total of 70 marks. The paper is divided into three major sections – A, B, and C. Students must answer questions from all sections according to the given choices. The exam checks a student’s understanding of communication theory, writing skills, organizational communication, emotional intelligence, presentation skills, social media ethics, technical writing, leadership communication, and human behavior models.
SECTION A – Short Answer Questions (14 Marks)
Section A contains 7 very short questions, each carrying 2 marks. Students must answer all questions briefly.
Topics include:
definition of communication flow in an organization
difference between vowel and consonant sounds
key components of a résumé
role of passion in speech delivery
purpose of illustrations in presentations
meaning of constructive feedback
social media platforms commonly used for webinars
This section tests quick understanding, basic definitions, and conceptual clarity.
SECTION B – Descriptive Questions (21 Marks)
In Section B, students must attempt any three questions, each worth 7 marks.
These questions require short explanations, comparisons, and reasoning-based answers.
Topics include:
difference between code and content in communication and their effect on message interpretation
challenges in writing an SOP and ways to overcome them
structure of a technical proposal and how it improves clarity and persuasiveness
emotional intelligence and how it helps build trust in teams
ethical and effective use of social media for content promotion
This section evaluates analytical thinking, explanation skills, and understanding of workplace communication.
SECTION C – Case-Based / Applied Questions (35 Marks)
Section C contains five sets of questions, each with two choices.
Students must attempt one question from each set, each worth 7 marks.
These questions are application-oriented and require practical examples or real-life scenarios.
Topics include:
example of non-verbal communication playing a crucial role
impact of voice dynamics on communication effectiveness
dos and don’ts of networking at a career fair
email writing for an informational interview
strategies to maintain audience engagement during a presentation
presenting technical data to non-experts
role of feedback in improving communication skills
using thinking skills for leadership communication
ensuring ethical and effective use of social media
applying personality theories (Maslow, Freud, Jung) to create relatable and engaging content
This section tests higher-level skills – application, creativity, communication strategy, professional writing, and human behavior understanding.
