(SEM III) THEORY EXAMINATION 2023-24 ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION
This document presents the complete Theory Examination Question Paper for Electrical Measurements & Instrumentation (BEE302) for B.Tech, Semester III, Academic Session 2023–24.
The examination is structured to evaluate the student’s understanding of measurement principles, electrical instruments, AC/DC bridges, transducers, transformers, and power measurement techniques.
The paper contains three sections (A, B, and C), with questions designed to assess conceptual clarity, analytical ability, numerical problem-solving, and practical understanding of instrumentation.
Section A – Short Answer Conceptual Questions (14 Marks)
This section includes 7 compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks, focusing on fundamental concepts like:
Accuracy vs precision
Types of measurement errors
AC bridge balance conditions
CT/PT ratios
Characteristics of transducers
Section B – Descriptive / Analytical Questions (21 Marks)
Students must attempt any 3 out of 5 questions, each carrying 7 marks.
This section evaluates:
Principle and construction of moving-iron instruments
Two-wattmeter method of power measurement
Owen’s bridge for inductance measurement
CT ratio and phase angle error calculations
Construction and application of LVDT
Section C – Long Answer / Application-Based Questions (35 Marks)
Students must attempt one question from each of the five subsections, covering:
PMMC instruments
Wheatstone bridge error calculations
Electrodynamometer wattmeter
Power factor meter
Kelvin double bridge
Crompton DC potentiometer
Wave analyzers
Current transformer equivalent circuit
Strain gauge transducer
Capacitive transducer
This section tests in-depth knowledge, derivations, diagrams, and real-world applications of measurement systems.
Added 3 Extra Questions (As Requested)
You can include these in any section depending on requirement:
1. What are the advantages of digital instruments over analog instruments?
(Section A – 2 Marks)
2. Derive the equation for the sensitivity of a PMMC instrument.
(Section B – 7 Marks)
3. With a neat diagram, explain the working of a Hall-effect transducer.
