(SEM III) THEORY EXAMINATION 2022-23 ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS& INSTRUMENTATION

This question paper is designed for B.Tech (Semester III) students under the subject Electrical & Electronics Measurements (KEE-302).
It aims to evaluate the students’ understanding of electrical measuring instruments, bridges, transducers, CRO operations, and instrument transformers.

The paper is divided into three sections:

SECTION A – Short Answer Questions (20 Marks)

This section contains 10 compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks.
These questions test the basic understanding of:

Primary vs Secondary instruments

Thermocouple working principle

Anderson & Hay Bridge concepts

CT, PT ratios & applications

CRO sweep generator

Lissajous figures

Primary vs Secondary transducers

Active & passive transducers

SECTION B – Descriptive / Analytical Questions (30 Marks)

Students must attempt any three questions, each carrying 10 marks.
This section focuses on:

Error calculation in series–parallel resistors

Hay’s bridge derivation & phasor diagram

Current transformer equivalent circuit

Types of electronic voltmeters and DC voltmeter working

Hall effect transducer: construction, working & applications

SECTION C – Long Answer / Application-Based Questions (50 Marks)

Students must attempt one question from each of the five subsections, each carrying 10 marks.
This section checks advanced knowledge in:

PMMC instrument working & torque equation

Electro-dynamometer operation

Schering and Maxwell’s Bridges

CT & PT errors

CRO block diagram & working

Spectrum analyzer working

Strain gauge analysis

Piezoelectric transducer characteristics

Overall Purpose of the Paper

The exam thoroughly evaluates the student's:

Conceptual understanding of measurement techniques

Practical approach towards electrical instrument applications

Problem-solving skills using bridge circuits and transformers

Knowledge of CRO, DVM, Hall effect, strain gauges, and piezoelectric sensors
