(SEM III) THEORY EXAMINATION 2022-23 ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

This question paper is designed for a B.Tech (Semester Exam) and focuses on evaluating students' understanding of Basic Electronics, including semiconductor theory, diode applications, BJT/JFET/MOSFET behavior, operational amplifier circuits, measurement systems, and CRO/DMM fundamentals.

The paper is divided into three sections, each testing different levels of knowledge:

SECTION A – Short Answer Questions (20 Marks)

This section contains 10 short questions, each carrying 2 marks.
It tests conceptual understanding of:

Semiconductor basics (doping, diode capacitance, dark current)

Special diode operations (Zener, Tunnel diode)

JFET operation

BJT switching mode

Operational amplifier parameters (CMRR, voltage follower)

Digital vs. analog meters

CRO fundamentals (Lissajous patterns)

Students must answer all questions briefly and correctly.

SECTION B – Descriptive / Analytical Questions (30 Marks)

Students must attempt any three out of five questions (each 10 marks).
This section checks the ability to:

Draw and interpret V–I characteristics of diodes

Explain full-wave rectifier with center-tapped transformer (with efficiency)

Analyze CE transistor characteristics and justify preference

Derive Op-amp based integrator, differentiator, subtractor circuits

Explain construction & working of Digital Multimeters with block diagrams

Answers should include neat circuit diagrams, characteristics, equations, and proper explanation.

SECTION C – Long Answer / Problem-Solving (50 Marks)

This section contains five questions, each with two choices, and each question carries 10 marks.
It evaluates deeper understanding of:

LED-based output calculation / Voltage doubler circuits

Tunnel diode & varactor diode working

Q-point calculation of BJT / MOSFET characteristics

Op-amp adder design & output calculation

Ramp-type digital voltmeter / CRO applications

Students must answer one part from each question, demonstrating analytical clarity and proper circuit interpretation.
