(SEM IV) THEORY EXAMINATION 2023-24 UNIVERSAL HUMAN VALUES & PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
This document is a B.Tech (Semester IV) Theory Examination paper for the course BVE401 – Universal Human Values & Professional Ethics, conducted in the academic session 2023–2024.
It carries 100 marks, with a duration of 3 hours, and aims to examine students’ understanding of human values, ethical conduct, consciousness, relationships, self-exploration, harmony with nature, and professionalism.
The exam is structured into three sections:
SECTION A – Short, conceptual questions
SECTION B – Analytical and reflective questions
SECTION C – Long, descriptive, and value-based questions
All questions must be answered based on the concepts taught in the course.
SECTION A – Short Answer Questions (20 Marks)
Ten 2-mark questions testing foundational concepts such as:
Two basic aspirations of every human (continuous happiness & prosperity)
Difference between belief vs understanding
Distinction between consciousness unit (Self) and material unit (Body)
Three purposes of physical facilities
Meaning & definition of complete value in relationships
Definition of Justice as per the course
Natural characteristics of the animal order
Meaning of submergence in coexistence
Relation between utility value & artistic value
Four components to ensure Humanistic Tradition
SECTION B – Medium-Length Value-Based Questions (30 Marks)
Attempt any three (each 10 marks):
a. Happiness vs Excitement
Difference between sensory pleasures and lasting happiness; why sensations cannot ensure continuous happiness.
b. Self as Seer, Doer, Enjoyer
Explains how Self is central to human existence and the body is merely an instrument.
c. Reverence, Competition vs Excellence
Defines reverence, distinguishes competition from excellence, and explains how excellence promotes societal harmony.
d. Mutual Fulfilment in Nature
Explains recyclability, interdependence, and current human disruptions to nature, with institute-level solutions.
e. People-friendly & Eco-friendly Production Systems
Scope, characteristics, and evaluation of two Indian historical production systems.
SECTION C – Long, Reflective & Illustrative Questions (50 Marks)
Each question offers two options; attempt one part from each.
3. Self-Exploration / Transformation through Value Education (10 Marks)
Option (a):
Process of Self-exploration with a diagram and its importance in technical education.
Option (b):
How value education enables transformation from animal consciousness to human consciousness.
4. Sources of Imagination / Self-Regulation (10 Marks)
Option (a):
Three sources of imagination in the Self, illustrated with a diagram.
Option (b):
Analysis of body-care responsibility and its link to Self-regulation.
5. Trust & Fearlessness in Society (10 Marks)
Option (a):
Definition of Trust and why it is the foundation of all relationships.
Option (b):
Living in a fearless society—conditions required and how an individual can contribute.
6. Four Orders of Nature / Chart of Existence (10 Marks)
Option (a):
Innateness & inheritance of the four orders (material, pranic, animal, human) and how conduct is ensured.
Option (b):
Drawing the chart of Existence as Co-existence, showing four orders and completeness of activity & conduct.
7. Ethical Human Conduct / Professional Ethics Issues (10 Marks)
Option (a):
Definition of Ethical Human Conduct, role of values, policies, and character.
Option (b):
Issues in modern professional ethics, five unethical practices, methods to curb them, and long-term effectiveness.
Overall Purpose of the Document
This exam paper evaluates the student’s knowledge and internalization of:
Universal Human Values
Happiness, prosperity, trust, respect, affection, care, guidance, and harmony.
Human Consciousness & Self-Exploration
Role of Self, body as an instrument, regulation, imagination, and understanding.
Ethical & Professional Conduct
Ethical decision-making, responsible behavior, professional integrity.
Harmony with Nature & Society
Mutual fulfillment, coexistence, eco-friendly systems, fearlessness in society.
Humanistic Education & Holistic Living
Humanistic tradition, sustainable living, meaningful participation in the world.
This document is a complete assessment of the student’s value education, ethical reasoning, and self-awareness based on the Universal Human Values framework.
