(SEM IV) THEORY EXAMINATION 2018-19 ELECTRONIC MEASUREMENTS INSTRUMENTATION
Electronic Measurements & Instrumentation – B.Tech (Semester IV) Theory Examination
This question paper is designed to evaluate students’ understanding of Electronic Measurements, Instrumentation principles, measurement techniques, transducers, bridges, meters, CRO operations, and calibration methods. It carries a total of 70 marks and is divided into three sections—A, B, and C—covering both conceptual and analytical aspects of the subject.
SECTION A — Very Short Answer Questions (2 × 7 = 14 Marks)
This section contains seven brief, fundamental questions aimed at testing basic definitions and conceptual clarity.
Topics include:
Random & gross errors Analog vs digital multimeters
Quality factor Ammeter current measurement
Interpolation Instrument calibration
Transducers & inverse transducers
SECTION B — Descriptive Questions (7 × 3 = 21 Marks)
Students must attempt any three out of five detailed questions.
This section checks understanding of circuit design, working principles, diagrams, and measurement techniques.
Topics include:
Source follower electronic voltmeter Multi-range FET voltmeter design
Inductance measurement using bridges Frequency & phase measurement using CRO
Piezo-electric transducer modes
SECTION C — Long Answer Questions (7 marks each, 5 questions split into choices)
This section consists of five questions, each offering a choice (a or b), requiring deeper explanation, derivations, block diagrams, or calculations.
Main concepts include:
Temperature coefficient–based resistor variation (numerical) Series ohmmeter construction
Digital frequency meter block diagram Digital multimeter operation
Schering bridge for dielectric loss measurement Wheatstone bridge
Delay line in oscilloscope Digital Storage Oscilloscope (DSO)
X-Y plotter working AC voltmeter calibration
Overall Purpose of This Question Paper
The paper tests a student’s ability to:
Understand measurement errors and instrument characteristics
Use electronic instruments correctly
Interpret voltmeter, ammeter, and meter circuits
Apply bridge methods to measure R, L, C
Use CRO and DSO for signal analysis
Understand transducers and their applications
Perform calibration and instrumentation procedures
It combines theory, problem-solving, diagrams, and practical measurement concepts to ensure well-rounded knowledge.
