(SEM IV) THEORY EXAMINATION 2018-19 ENVIRONMENT & ECOLOGY
ENVIRONMENT & ECOLOGY – B.Tech (Semester IV), RAS-402
This is a 3-hour, 70-mark theory examination designed to test a student’s understanding of environmental science, ecological balance, pollution, natural cycles, biodiversity, environmental laws, and sustainable development. The structure includes conceptual, descriptive, and analytical questions.
SECTION A — Short Answer Questions (2 × 7 = 14 Marks)
This section consists of 7 brief questions that check basic definitions and fundamental environmental concepts.
Topics include:
Biomagnification Greenhouse importance
BAP & its sources Sea as a carbon sink
BOD Flood causes
Biotic & abiotic components
These questions test quick conceptual clarity.
SECTION B — Descriptive Questions (7 × 3 = 21 Marks)
Students must attempt any 3 of 5 questions.
This section requires detailed explanations, diagrams, and environmental processes.

Ecosystem restoration & in-situ conservation Nitrogen cycle + nitrification/denitrification
Meaning & components of environment Biodiversity: types & importance
Environmental education & bio-indicators
This section evaluates understanding of ecological systems and environmental science principles.
SECTION C — Long Answer Questions (7 marks each)
This section consists of five questions, each with two choices (a or b).
It requires in-depth answers, diagrams, and logical explanations.

Soil fertility issues: water logging & salinity
Q4 – Environmental Studies Concepts
Multidisciplinary nature & importance

Water Pollution Act (1974) salient features
Q6 – Global Environmental Issues
Ozone layer depletion: causes & effects
Impact of urbanization & industrialization + remedies
Q7 – Environmental Management Tools
Role of NGOs in pollution control
Solid waste management: meaning & functional elements
This section tests application-oriented knowledge, analytical skills, and environmental problem-solving abilities.
