(SEM IV) THEORY EXAMINATION 2018-19 UNIVERSAL HUMAN VALUES AND PROFESSAIONAL ETHICS
UNIVERSAL HUMAN VALUES & PROFESSIONAL ETHICS – B.Tech (SEM-IV), RVE-401
This is a 3-hour, 70-mark theoretical examination that evaluates a student’s understanding of human values, ethical living, harmony in relationships, value education, professional ethics, and holistic human development.
The paper is divided into three sections, focusing on conceptual clarity, descriptive understanding, and analytical reflection.
SECTION A — Short Concept Questions (2 × 7 = 14 Marks)
This section contains seven brief questions, aimed at checking fundamental definitions and core concepts.
Topics include:
Meaning of human values Natural acceptance & experiential validation
SVDD, SSDD & SSSS abbreviations Terms: Gathansheel, Gathanpurana, Kriyapurnata, Acharanpurnata
Meaning of trust Preconditioning & its source
Meaning of sukh (happiness) and suvidha (physical facilities)
These questions test basic understanding of human behavior, feelings, and ethical concepts.
SECTION B — Descriptive / Reflective Questions (7 × 3 = 21 Marks)
Attempt any 3 out of 5 questions.
This section requires explanatory answers with diagrams/examples where needed.
Topics include:
Self-exploration process (with diagram)
Requirements for fulfilling human aspirations
Needs of the Self (I) vs Needs of the body
Feelings of care and guidance & their role in parent-child relationship
Ethical human conduct in terms of values, policies, character
This section tests self-understanding, interpersonal harmony, and ethical reasoning.
SECTION C — Long Answer / Applied Values Questions (7 marks each)
Each question provides choice (a or b), focusing on in-depth reflection, comparison, and explanation.

Basic guidelines for value education
Prosperity vs wealth (with examples)
Q4 – Misunderstanding of Happiness & Conditioning
Consequences of confusing sukh with suvidha
Influence of sensations & preconditionings on imagination (with examples)
Q5 – Justice, Respect & Human Relations
Justice and its link to mutual happiness
Meaning of respect & how differentiation occurs; minimum content of respect
Q6 – Innateness & Natural Orders
Innateness in human beings
Four orders in nature & their mutual interdependence
Q7 – Values in Interaction & Professional Ethics
Human–material interaction values (with examples)
Meaning and explanation of professional ethics
This section evaluates deep understanding of relationships, societal harmony, and ethical conduct.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE EXAM
This question paper assesses whether the student can:
Distinguish between physical & spiritual needs
Understand self-exploration and natural acceptance
Recognize values that promote harmony in family, society, and nature
Identify preconditionings and analyze human behavior logically
Understand justice, trust, respect, and human relations
Practice professional ethics in real-life engineering situations
Develop a responsible, ethical, and value-based approach to living
It integrates philosophy, self-development, ethics, and human behavior to create a balanced and responsible future professional.
