(SEM IV) THEORY EXAMINATION 2017-18 UNIVERSAL HUMAN VALUES AND PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
The B.Tech Universal Human Values & Professional Ethics (RVE401) question paper from the 2017–18 IV Semester Theory Examination is a 70‐mark, 3‐hour exam assessing a student's understanding of human aspirations, value-based living, harmony, ethical conduct, human relationships, societal well-being, and eco-friendly coexistence. The paper emphasizes introspection, human behaviour analysis, value-based decision making, and holistic understanding of life. It consists of three major sections that move from fundamental reflections to advanced conceptual reasoning.
SECTION A – Short Answer Reflections (14 Marks)
Seven short questions (2 marks each) test students’ basic understanding of human aspirations, harmony, feelings, co-existence, and ethical behaviour. The questions touch upon:
Basic aspiration of human beings and whether it is universal for everyone
Definite & indefinite states of Desire (D), Thought (T), Expectation (E) in the Self
Two natural outcomes of affection (trust & respect)
Filling blanks related to the Comprehensive Human Goal
Understanding co-existence in nature due to natural laws and mutual fulfilment
True testimony of ethical human conduct, focused not on certificates but behaviour
Verifying the proposal that value education enhances professional competence
These questions represent the foundation of value-based education.
SECTION B – Intermediate Analytical & Reflective Questions (Any 3 × 7 = 21 Marks)
This section contains thought-provoking, reasoning-based questions encouraging self-exploration and holistic thinking.
1. Basic Aspirations – To Be? To Get? To Become?
Students reflect on the priorities of life and justify their understanding with real examples.
2. Needs of Self (“I”) vs Needs of Body
Explaining their differences:
Body needs are temporary, physical, measurable
Self needs are continuous, qualitative
The question emphasises whether these can be interchanged.
3. Care, Guidance & Other Feelings
Importance of feelings like gratitude, respect, trust, and how they contribute to intergenerational excellence.
4. Achieving Comprehensive Human Goal
Two critical dimensions:
Education–Sanskar
Health–Sanyam
5. People-friendly & Eco-friendly Production Systems
Characteristics needed for sustainability in society and environment.
SECTION C – Deep Conceptual & Ethical Application Questions (7 Marks Each)
These questions require higher-level explanation, philosophical reasoning, and application of universal human values.
Q3 – Value Education or Self-Exploration
Students choose between explaining:
Need & Basic Guidelines of Value Education
OR
Meaning, content, and process of Self-exploration, including self-verification
Q4 – Body vs ‘I’ or Harmony in ‘I’
Understanding body as an instrument of “I” (self)
OR
Achieving harmony in “I” by understanding its characteristics and activities
Q5 – Human Relationships or Fearlessness in Society
Option (a): Whether human-to-human relationships are given (Is) or created, explained through the feeling of Love
Option (b): Requirements for a fearless society, personal preferences, and individual contribution toward creating such a society
Q6 – Realities, Co-existence & Four Orders of Nature
Explanation of the three realities:
Material Unit
Conscious Unit
Space & Co-existence
OR
Four orders in nature: material order, plant/bio order, animal order, human order — and the current state of the human order, including imbalance and mis-participation
Q7 – Choosing Ethical Professionals or Strategies for Universal Human Order
Option (a): Choosing professionals who live with value education and offering services ethically
Option (b): Strategies to transition from the present societal condition to Universal Human Order
