What do you mean by productivity?
Productivity is a measure of efficiency that shows the relationship between output produced and the inputs used. It is defined as the ratio of total output to total input. Higher productivity means better utilization of resources such as labor, machines, materials, and time.
Differentiate between routing and scheduling.
Routing is the process of determining the sequence of operations through which a job must pass during production. Scheduling, on the other hand, decides the time at which each operation should be performed. Routing focuses on the path of work, while scheduling focuses on time management.
SECTION B (Any 2 Questions Explained)
Explain ABC analysis and state why it is necessary.
ABC analysis is an inventory control technique that classifies items into three categories based on their annual consumption value. ‘A’ items are highly valuable with low quantity, ‘B’ items have moderate value, and ‘C’ items are low-value items with high quantity. It is necessary because it helps management focus more attention on critical items, reduce inventory cost, and improve control efficiency.
Define work study and state its objectives.
Work study is a systematic examination of work methods to improve productivity and efficiency. Its main objective is to find the best method of doing a job and to establish standard time for its completion. Work study helps reduce unnecessary motions, save time, and increase overall output.

Explain the principles of a good plant layout.
A good plant layout aims to arrange machines, equipment, and workstations in a way that ensures smooth flow of materials and minimum handling. It reduces production time, improves safety, and increases efficiency. Proper plant layout also helps in better space utilization and easier supervision.
Explain MRP-I, MRP-II and JIT.
MRP-I (Material Requirement Planning) is used to determine the quantity and timing of raw materials required for production. MRP-II extends this concept by integrating manpower, machines, and finance into production planning. Just-In-Time (JIT) is a production philosophy that aims to reduce inventory by producing goods only when required, thereby minimizing waste and improving quality.
