(SEM II) THEORY EXAMINATION 2023-24 FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
This document contains the complete B.Tech (Semester II) Theory Examination Question Paper for Fundamentals of Electronics Engineering, Subject Code BEC201, for the academic year 2023–24. The question paper evaluates a student’s understanding of the core principles of electronics, including semiconductor devices, diode behavior, transistor configurations, operational amplifiers, Boolean algebra, digital logic circuits, communication systems, and wireless technologies.
The paper is divided into three main sections, each assessing different levels of knowledge—from basic conceptual recall to detailed theoretical analysis and practical circuit understanding.
SECTION A — Short-Answer Questions (2 marks each)
This section tests fundamental electronic concepts through seven short questions. Topics include:
Functions of clippers and clampers
Difference between half-wave and full-wave rectifiers
Operating principle of BJT
Differential operation in Op-Amps
Importance of universal gates
Meaning of combinational logic
Concept of frequency reuse in cellular networks
These questions check quick recall and understanding of essential electronic components and systems.
SECTION B — Analytical & Circuit-Based Questions (7 marks each)
Students must attempt any three questions. These involve deeper conceptual and circuit-level knowledge:
Drawing V–I characteristics of semiconductor diodes and explaining voltage multipliers
Discussing CC configuration of BJT
Designing a summing amplifier using Op-Amp
Explaining core Boolean algebra laws and theorems
Necessity of modulation and techniques of AM demodulation
This section examines medium-level problem solving and circuit behavior understanding.
SECTION C — Long Descriptive Questions (7 marks each)
This section includes detailed questions on:
Zener breakdown mechanisms
Structure and working of LEDs
Construction and gate control in JFETs
Characteristics and operation of MOSFETs (depletion vs. enhancement mode)
Inverting amplifier configuration using Op-Amp
Ideal characteristics of operational amplifiers
K-Map simplification and logic gate implementation
Realizing basic logic gates using NAND gate
Basics of wireless communication, radar principles
Evolution of cellular networks from 1G to 5G
These questions evaluate in-depth theoretical knowledge and application in real electronic systems.
Sample Questions from the Paper (1–2 Only)
“How does a half-wave rectifier differ from a full-wave rectifier?”
— Tests basic understanding of rectifier operation and efficiency.
“Explain why modulation is necessary in communication systems and describe AM demodulation techniques.”
— Evaluates understanding of communication principles and signal processing.
These examples represent the overall depth and style of the questions included in the paper.
Coverage of the Question Paper
Apart from the sample questions shown above, the paper includes many other similar questions related to:
Semiconductor device behavior
Transistor biasing and configurations
Op-Amp circuit design
Boolean logic, digital circuits & K-maps
Wireless, radar, satellite & cellular communication
Field-effect transistor technology
Logic gate implementation and circuit simplification
These questions follow the university syllabus and help students build strong fundamentals in electronics.
