Theory Examination (Semester-II) 2015-16 ENVIRONMENT & ECOLOGY
This is a 3-hour Theory Examination for Environment & Ecology (Semester–II), carrying 100 marks. The paper is divided into three sections – A, B, and C, and the student must attempt questions from all sections according to the instructions. The paper focuses on environmental issues, pollution, natural disasters, biodiversity, population studies, sustainable development, and ecological concepts.
Section – A (20 Marks)
Section A contains very short-answer questions, each testing basic environmental concepts. Students must answer all questions. Topics include:
sources and effects of noise pollution
the role of Central Pollution Control Board
the Nalgonda process and its uses
sustainable development
pollution from thermal power plants
population pyramids (pyramid, bell, urn shapes)
immigration and emigration
reasons for migration
This section checks quick recall and conceptual clarity.
Section – B (50 Marks)
Section B consists of descriptive questions, from which any five must be attempted. These questions require explanations, diagrams, and examples. Topics include:
types of biodiversity and threats to biodiversity
water pollution and its control methods
ozone layer formation, depletion, and role of CFCs
EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), inventory, and monitoring
energy resources and examples
bioaccumulation and biomagnification
greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons
blue baby syndrome
bio-indicators
migration and emigration
matching questions on environmental terms
This section checks understanding, reasoning, and the ability to express environmental processes clearly.
Section – C (30 Marks)
Section C contains three long-answer questions, out of which any two must be attempted. These questions require detailed descriptions, case studies, and proper explanations. Topics include:
sustainable development and how it can be achieved
case study of the Bhuj–Gujarat earthquake
explanation of landslides, causes, and effects
This section tests deeper knowledge, analytical ability, and descriptive writing.
Overall Summary
This question paper tests a student's understanding of environmental issues, ecological balance, natural disasters, pollution control, population studies, sustainability, and biodiversity.
Section A checks basic concepts
Section B focuses on detailed explanations
Section C tests depth of knowledge through long answers
