a. Role of women in ancient India
In ancient India, women played an important role in family, education, and society. They participated in religious rituals, education, and intellectual activities. Women scholars like Gargi and Maitreyi contributed to philosophical discussions. Though their status varied over time, early Vedic society respected women and allowed them education and freedom.
b. Varna System
The Varna system divided society into four groups: Brahmins (priests and teachers), Kshatriyas (warriors and rulers), Vaishyas (traders and farmers), and Shudras (service providers). It was originally based on occupation and duties, not birth, but later became rigid.
c. Sanskrit Literature
Sanskrit literature includes the Vedas, Upanishads, epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, Puranas, and classical works on science, philosophy, and arts. It played a major role in preserving Indian knowledge and culture.
d. Role of Brahmi Script
Brahmi script is considered the mother of many Indian scripts. It helped in the development of scripts like Devanagari, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali, thus supporting the growth of Indian languages.
e. Four Noble Truths of Buddhism
Buddha taught that life involves suffering, suffering arises from desire, suffering can be ended by controlling desire, and the Eightfold Path leads to liberation from suffering.
f. Shad-Darshana of Indian Philosophy
The six philosophical systems are Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Samkhya, Yoga, Mimamsa, and Vedanta. They explore logic, reality, consciousness, and liberation.
g. Importance of developing science
Scientific development improves quality of life, promotes innovation, and helps solve problems related to health, environment, and technology. Ancient India emphasized scientific inquiry in astronomy, medicine, and mathematics.
h. Mathematics in Harappan Civilization
Harappans used advanced measurement systems, geometry, and decimal concepts. Their town planning reflects strong mathematical knowledge.
i. Cinematograph Act 1952
The Cinematograph Act regulates film certification in India to ensure public morality, decency, and security through the Central Board of Film Certification.
j. Indian Dance Forms
Indian dance forms include classical dances like Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, and Mohiniyattam, each reflecting regional culture.

Q2(a) Saptanga Theory of Kautilya
Kautilya’s Saptanga theory describes the state as having seven elements: King, Ministers, Territory, Fort, Treasury, Army, and Allies. A strong balance among these ensured stability and prosperity of the state.
Q2(b) Teachings of Ramayana and Mahabharata
Ramayana emphasizes duty, morality, loyalty, and ideal conduct, while Mahabharata highlights dharma, justice, and ethical dilemmas. Both epics guide moral and social behavior.
Q2(c) Buddhism vs Jainism
Buddhism focuses on the Middle Path and liberation through Eightfold Path, while Jainism emphasizes extreme non-violence and self-discipline. Both reject ritualism and promote ethical living.
Q2(d) Physics in ancient India
Ancient Indians studied motion, gravity, optics, and sound. Concepts of atomism and laws of motion were discussed in philosophical texts.
Q2(e) Indian fairs and festivals
Festivals like Diwali, Holi, Eid, Christmas, Pongal, Baisakhi, and Kumbh Mela promote unity, culture, and social harmony across India.

Q3(a) State administration in ancient India
The king was the head of administration assisted by ministers. Officials managed revenue, justice, defense, and public welfare, ensuring effective governance.
Q3(b) Social Contract Theory
This theory explains the origin of state through mutual agreement among people to maintain order and security, giving rise to political authority.
Q4(a) Upanishads: characteristics and relevance
Upanishads focus on self-realization, Brahman, Atman, and liberation. They emphasize knowledge over rituals and remain relevant for spiritual understanding.
Q4(b) Development of North Indian languages
North Indian languages evolved from Brahmi through scripts like Gupta and Nagari, leading to Hindi, Marathi, and Bengali.
