(SEM VIII) THEORY EXAMINATION 2020-21 UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN BEING COMPREHENSIVELY - HUMAN ASPIRATIONS AND ITS FULFILLMENT
SECTION A – Explanation
Section A of this paper is designed to test the student’s basic conceptual clarity about human aspirations, consciousness, and the fundamental ideas discussed in the course. All questions in this section are compulsory and require brief but thoughtful answers. Unlike technical subjects, this section does not test memory of formulas but rather understanding of concepts related to happiness, prosperity, self, and existence.
The questions in this section include reasoning how prosperity is included in continuity of happiness, defining contemplation, explaining perseverance, describing the content of realization, distinguishing between a conscious unit and a material unit, explaining the meaning of science as discussed in the course, and listing the four dimensions of a human being. These questions aim to ensure that the student has internalized the basic philosophical framework of the subject.
For example, the question on prosperity and happiness checks whether the student understands that prosperity supports continuity of happiness by fulfilling physical needs. The distinction between conscious and material units tests clarity about awareness and self-organization. Listing the four dimensions of a human being evaluates understanding of self, body, family, society, and nature as integrated dimensions of existence. Answers in this section must be concise, reflective, and written in simple language, showing conceptual understanding rather than rote learning.
SECTION B – Explanation
Section B evaluates the student’s ability to explain concepts deeply and relate them to real life and personal experience. Students are required to attempt any three questions, which allows them to choose areas they understand well. This section demands descriptive answers and clear expression of ideas.
The questions in this section cover important themes such as the concept of resolution and its nine components, interaction between self and body with personal observation, explanation of the self as seer, doer, and enjoyer, reflection of submergence in the four orders of nature, and the complementary nature of utility value and artistic value. These questions require students to explain abstract ideas in a structured and meaningful way.
For instance, the question on resolution requires students to explain how right understanding leads to harmony in thoughts, behavior, and participation in society. The question on transaction between self and body expects students to explain sensations, needs, and responses along with personal examples. The question on utility and artistic value checks understanding of material usefulness along with aesthetic fulfillment. Answers in this section should be written in continuous paragraphs, with examples wherever appropriate, and should reflect clarity of thought and sincerity. The expected length is about one and a half to two pages per answer.
SECTION C – Explanation
Section C is the most important and highest-weight section of this paper. This section tests the student’s in-depth understanding, analytical ability, and capacity to reflect on human values and conduct. Each question provides internal choices, and students must attempt only one part from each question.
The questions in Section C deal with advanced and integrative concepts such as activities of the self and right understanding, the process and basis of comparing, the three kinds of tasting and transformation with right understanding, the process of knowing in the self, five aspects of a unit of nature, innateness and characteristics of the four orders of nature, submergence of nature in space, truth, love, and compassion, human conduct and its models, and formulation of the human goal. These questions require deep reflection and systematic explanation.
For example, questions on activities of the self require students to explain imagination, desire, thought, and expectation along with the role of right understanding. Questions on tasting require explanation of sensation, feeling, and evaluation, and how right understanding transforms experience. The question on truth, love, and compassion tests understanding of ethical and existential values as presented in the course. Answers in this section should be detailed, logically structured, and written with clarity and depth. Each answer typically spans two to three pages and significantly influences the final score.
Overall Understanding of the Paper Pattern
The paper Understanding the Human Being Comprehensively – Human Aspirations and Its Fulfillment (ROE-074) is structured to assess students progressively from basic awareness to deep understanding of human values and existence. Section A focuses on fundamental concepts and definitions, Section B evaluates conceptual explanation and personal reflection, and Section C examines deep analytical understanding and value-based reasoning. Success in this subject depends on clarity of concepts, sincerity of expression, and the ability to relate ideas to real life rather than memorization.
A strong preparation strategy for this paper includes understanding core concepts like happiness, prosperity, self, body, nature, and harmony, practicing descriptive answers, and reflecting on examples from daily life. Section C deserves special attention as it carries the highest weight and demands depth and clarity of understanding.
